March Innovation Challenge Update

MHS + LIC

In our last meetings together, LIC students were already hard at work on their projects, engineering solutions to problems found within their communities. One representative from each group presented their projects, and MHS students had a chance to ask questions and hear about how these ideas came about.

MHS and LIC students then completed a coding activity together using an interactive coding website, where they coded animated characters to create silly dances to pop songs. Students shared their screens to show off their coding creations!

Guest Speakers

Our guest speaker program began with a chemistry lesson from Mr. Seck! After telling the LIC students all about his experiences growing up in Lambaye and his educational background, Mr. Seck demonstrated chemistry experiments from his MHS classroom! He showed the students how to test chemicals using flame color from a bunsen burner, and a variety of reactions that occur when chemicals are mixed. Even through the masks we could see the excitement on the faces of the students in Lambaye!! This STEM-based lesson was a wonderful way to begin our guest speaker series!!

Our next guest speaker was Margo Isadora, an MHS alumni and long time S4S club member. From a young age, Margo had a strong interest in fashion and design, and ultimately turned that passion into a career! She works with a variety of mediums, has worked with and for big name design brands, and has even traveled abroad to expand her design horizons. She spoke about important issues including climate change and women’s rights, and explained how the power of design is an incredibly important tool to enact change. Margo inspired the LIC students to use the materials around them in creative ways. We can’t wait to see how the students use Margo’s lesson in their projects and their lives!
